Cuban Salsa in English!

We invite you to our Cuban Salsa course in English, lead by Col Walder!

Cuban Salsa is a fun and social dance where making new friends goes hand in hand with learning smooth moves. We like our classes to be fun, fresh and full of style/flavour (sabor – as the Cubans say). We will take you from being a complete beginner to an accomplished dancer and even beyond.

Col Walder has been dancing Salsa since 2009 and was well known in Edinburgh’s salsa scene before moving to Warsaw. He has a passion for Cuban music and has actively sought out and studied with the best dancers and teachers on the national and international level in a variety of Cuban dances. To take his skills even further he travelled to Cuba to train with the highly regarded Ballet Folklorico Cutumba, and while there took private classes with two former members of, Cuba’s most famous Rueda group as well as with the acclaimed Rumba group Raices Profundes and instructors from Cuba’s foremost Afro-Cuban school the Conjunto Folklorico National de Cuba.

In 2011 Col began teaching Cuban Salsa in Edinburgh, founding Salsa4water Edinburgh; a group dedicated to raising money for Wateraid and in 2013 co-founded Cuban Salsa School which remains the largest school for Cuban Salsa in Edinbugh and one of the largest in all of Scotland. In 2015 Col moved to Warsaw and joined the Oye family where he now teaches salsa classes in English and performs with Oye Rueda.

Col’s speciality is dancing with a connection with the music and he draws on his extensive experience as a musician to help teach this to his students as well as developing the key techniques that allow someone from a non-dancing background to learn authentic Cuban body movement and style.
